Our Casual Fit is designed to accommodate a wider range of hoof growth. This can be especially helpful for horses with hooves that tend to change shape throughout a trim cycle.
Renegade Hoof Boots are designed to fit for an 8-week trim cycle, but a 6-week cycle is recommended. If the hoof grows too much, the heel captivators may not engage properly, which could result in boot loss and additional stress on the cables. Even with a loose fit, Renegade boots are designed to stay on and provide protection and support.
However, we can achieve even higher performance by shortening the trim cycle and opting for a Close Fit. A Close Fit may require some interim rasping, a shorter trim cycle, and "trim to fit" the boot.
Here's a short video explaining this, and a summary of the key differences between the Close and Casual Fit:
Close Fit:
- Optimum secure fit for high-performance
- Allows the hoof to function naturally
- Requires more frequent trimming or maintenance rasping (every 2-4 weeks for barefoot horses) to maintain fit
Casual Fit:
- Accommodates longer trim cycles (up to 8 weeks)
- May not be ideal for high-performance activities
- Allows the hoof to function naturally
When choosing between a Close Fit and a Casual Fit, consider your horse's activity level, your preferred trimming schedule, and your individual preferences. We provide several resources to help determine the best fit for your horse, including:
- Detailed sizing chart and instructions on our website
- Personalized sizing assessments from our hoof boot experts
- Size exchange program if the boots don't fit initially
We recommend a "natural" trim with a low heel, short toe, and mustang roll to ensure accurate measurement and optimal boot fit. To account for hoof growth, add 5 to 10 mm to your horse's actual hoof measurements when determining the boot size.
