New Zealand Endurance horse Miro Lugh (Scratch) did his first 2000km barefoot before his owner, Daryl, put shoes on him before entering their first 160km. He had a number of years in shoes before they transitioned back to barefoot ... then a few years ago he just felt a bit 'off'. Vet checks showed a touch of arthritis, so Daryl sought a solution.
Part of that solution was getting Renegade Hoof Boots to reduce the concussion on his joints. Since getting his hoof boots Scratch has completed 1260km of competition, with no vet outs!
Daryl says:
"These handy hoof boots are helping me keep an older endurance riding horse in successful competition at a level he enjoys. We're now at 6600km lifetime kilometers successfully completed, and hopefully we're good for a few more yet."
Two seasons of endurance saw the pair wear holes in Scratch's Renegade hoof boots.
Daryl told us she was grateful to New Zealand Renegade Dealer Peter Greig for getting new hoof boots to her in good time for the new endurance season. She and Scratch had a great season of ESNZ, and have plenty of Endurance events planned for 2025-26.
Miro Lugh & Daryl's Endurance Riding Background
Scratch and Daryl have been together since she started him as a 5 year old. He has completed five 160km events in that time and hosted a number of foreign riders as well. Now that he's a bit older they've pulled back to doing maximum 120km.
In January he completed the 120km with an Australian junior rider, Charlotte Williamson, helping her on the way to selection for the Australian team to the Australian World Youth Championship. The previous season Daryl and Scratch ended their North Island Champs 120km in an exciting gallop finish, with Scratch in Renegades.
Daryl says "He loves his work, and we'll keep going as long as it's still good for him."
