Kirt Lander - Renegade hoof boot inventor & Endurance Rider

Kirt competed in endurance for 6 ride seasons and has 1755 miles. His wife, Gina Lander, competed in endurance for and impressive 16 ride seasons and has 2545 miles. The Landers’ horses won both regional and national awards. Their Arabian stallion Halim El Mokhtar, placed first in the nationally acclaimed American Endurance Ride Conference Jim Jones Stallion Award in 2005 in Renegade hoof boots.

Together, they have thoroughly proved and tested the performance of Renegade Hoof Boot in all types of conditions and terrain. In a single ride season, Gina and Halim completed 1,120 miles while Kirt completed 1125 miles. 

The invention of the Renegade Hoof Boot

Kirt created the Renegade® hoof boot after being heavily involved in the field of Natural Hoof Care for many years and competing in endurance events with barefooted horses. He became increasingly frustrated with available hoof boot designs for how difficult they were to use and "their blatant disrespect for the bio-mechanical needs of the equine hoof capsule and lower leg". 

Kirt wanted to create a better hoof boot that would delivery effective hoof protection both for a casual trail horse, but also for the barefoot competition endurance horse.

Possessing a background in industrial design, building construction, metal fabrication and model building, Kirt had the dedication and skills to develop the hoof boot of his dreams.

After more than three years and around 20,000 hours of development time, coupled with simultaneous “field testing” by over a dozen competition endurance-horse and rider teams covering thousands and thousands of training and competition miles on some of the most rugged terrain in the southwest of the USA, Kirt launched the Renegade Hoof Boot.

Years later the design evolved from the Classic hoof boot to the Renegade Viper Hoof Boot.

Kirt's uncompromising design philosophy of putting the horse first has led to a hoof boot design that highly respects the soft tissue of the hoof capsule and lower leg, does not obstruct the movement of pastern bones, does not accumulate significant quantities of dirt and debris, stays on the hoof well for performance work, and is the easiest to install and remove of any high performance hoof boot on the market.
