@maja.lundal and Aura - Using Hoof Boots in Norway's Snow

Maja lives just outside the small coastal town of Bodø in northern Norway.

Deeply passionate about animal welfare, she studies behavior-based horse training, and is dedicated to creating a harmonious partnership between horse and human. Her journey began at the age of seven, helping her neighbor with her horses - an experience that shaped her understanding of communication, patience, and trust.

In September 2025, she welcomed her first young horse, Aura, into her life. Aura is a beautiful Norwegian Lyngshest, a small native draft horse breed known for its strength, resilience, and gentle nature.

Maja has been using Renegade hoof boots for over ten years. She first discovered them through her neighbor and was immediately fascinated - not only by their function but by their fun colors. She still smiles when she thinks back to her first impression: they looked like Crocs for horses.

That early excitement has grown into long-term trust in a hoof boot product she now considers essential

Life with horses in northern Norway means adapting to challenging terrain and unpredictable weather. Maja enjoys a wide variety of activities with her horses, from riding and forest walks to extensive liberty work.

Her favorite moments are quiet explorations through the woods with her horses moving freely beside her. In these conditions - slippery ice, hard rock, and steep hills - Renegade boots with studs are indispensable. They provide safety, grip, and confidence for both horse and human.

One of the Renegade features she values most is the ability to adjust the hoof boots for a precise fit. This flexibility allows her to travel with her barefoot horses wherever she wants, regardless of season or terrain.

"When Aura wears her hoof boots, she moves with greater confidence and comfort, making every outing more enjoyable"

Through her work with horses, Maja has learned the importance of patience, presence, and appreciating the smallest changes. She believes training should be pleasant and rewarding for both horse and human, built on mutual understanding rather than pressure.

Aura has always been barefoot. Maja sees no reason to change what works naturally and supports the horse’s health. She prioritizes the horse’s natural needs and believes it is safer for horses to live in large herds when they are all barefoot.

She currently trims Aura’s hooves at home with the help of her neighbor and hopes to handle the process independently in the future.

Most of Maja’s training with Aura is done tackless - aside from hoof boots

Maja uses positive reinforcement, body language, and voice cues to communicate with her horse. When Aura is mature enough to be ridden, Maja hopes to continue riding tackless. In fact, she has never owned a shod horse and has only used a bit twice in her life.

For Maja, Renegade hoof boots stand out as the most adjustable, durable, and comfortable brand of hoof boots available.

Her favorite quote by Matilde Brandt captures her philosophy:

“It’s not about what the horses can do for us - it’s about the amazing things we can experience with them.”

Maja's main goal with horses is simple: to have fun, explore new places, deepen their relationship, and inspire others by showing that force and pain are not necessary when working with horses.
