We had a very good experience with the right boot, but for some reason the left one kept turning. On one 2-hour easy ride, we readjusted it 3 times … we would center it, but after a bit, it would slide off center to the left. They stayed on, though! We only do a walking ride because my horse’s pasterns are pretty shot at 28 years old.
Store owner replied:

Thank you for your feedback, and we're so glad the right boot is working well! We apologize for the frustration with the left boot twisting on your rides.
If you would like help solving this issue, we'd love to assist you! If you can send us a few photos of the boot on your horse's hoof, our team can take a closer look at the fit.

I'm so happy that I can ride anytime I want to now and not have to wait for the farrier to fix loose shoes!! My horses feet are much healthier. I ride in very rocky terrain and these boots have fit & worked well. Customer service is easy to coordinate with via email. My only issue is the time it takes to get the package to the shipper. I would prefer that drop off/pickup to UPS would take less than 4-5 days.
Store owner replied:
Hi Julie,
Thank you so much for sharing your feedback and sending over the photo! We love seeing our boots in action.
It is absolutely wonderful to hear that you have the freedom to ride whenever you want without waiting on the farrier, and that your horse's feet are healthier for it! Conquering that rocky terrain with confidence is exactly what the Dragon Fire Red Viper Shields are built for. We are also glad to hear our email support team has been easy to work with!
We also really appreciate your candid feedback regarding our handling times. We completely understand wanting your gear quickly, and a 4–5 day delay before UPS pickup is something we want to streamline. We will be sharing this with our shipping team so we can work on speeding up our process.
Thank you again for helping us improve and for being a part of the Renegade family. Happy, barefoot trails ahead!

Overall, the design of the boot is well-engineered. The reason I gave 4 stars is because the Velcro straps collect foxtail grass seeds and it is hard to clean. The straps also tend to be excessively long. I would definitely recommend the purchase of the boot for a tender footed horse.
Store owner replied:
Thank you Raquel so much for the thoughtful review and feedback! We are so glad to hear the design is helping your tender-footed horse.
To help with long straps, you can easily shorten them from the bottom attachment point, or simply fold and tuck the excess tail under the O-rings. Just be sure to keep the pastern straps loose enough that you can easily fit most of your hand through for a comfortable fit!
Tailwinds and happy riding,

I I have always considered boots as spare tires for endurance - but for this EMS mare, she has to wear them whenever we go out. It is saving her life, literally, because without the protection, I could not exercise her enough to keep the adipose fat off of her. She has a future - even at 20 years of age!
Store owner replied:
Thank you Sandra so much for sharing such a powerful story! We are so honored that our Dragon Fire Red Vipers are keeping your sweet mare active, comfortable, and thriving at 20 years young. Wishing you both many more happy miles together!

These Renegade boots are easy to put on, strap on, and go! My mare is ouchy on her fronts while walking on gravel/rocky roads and the boots have made a huge difference. She no longer has any issues. I love that she remains barefoot and we can add the boots if we need to.
Store owner replied:
Hi Brendozer,
Thank you for your review! We're so glad Renegade Hoof Boots are making such a big difference on those rocky roads and allowing your mare to stay comfortable while living barefoot. Happy riding!

The boots are fantastic, they look amazing and my horse loves them too. The ordering process and remote fitting assessment was fast, professional and accurate. I ordered from the UK and the postage cost was a fair amount but still cheaper than buying from a dealer in my country and I got the exact colour I wanted in the size I needed. However, once my item arrived in the UK I then had to pay an import tax fee of £50 (cheers Trump). So just be aware of that when ordering. As 1/3 of the cost was postage/import tax.
Store owner replied:
Thank you so much for the fantastic review, Elspeth! We’re thrilled to hear your horse loves the Dragon Fire Red Vipers and that our fitting team took great care of you. We truly appreciate your support all the way from the UK—happy trails to you both!

I really like these. My horse doesn’t get heel rubs with these. They stay on IF you do the bottom velcro as tight as you can. DO NOT do the top velcro tight, you want to fit four fingers underneath the stap and then do it up tight.
The free fitting helped me feel confident in plancing my order—they’re not cheap. I recommend buying when they are on sale.
Store owner replied:
Thank you so much for the detailed review and great tips, Jillian! We are so glad to hear your horse is staying rub-free in the Dragon Fire Red Vipers and that our free fitting assessment gave you the confidence to order. You nailed it on the strap adjustments—keeping that top pastern strap nice and loose is the key to complete comfort!
Happy trails to you and your horse!

My dear friend Helen loaned me her horse’s Renegades to use on my horse Worthy. He is new to barefoot, and has thin soles. He did so well with the loaned Rengades, that I bought him his very own pair! He is 100% sound with Renegade shoes protecting his hooves.
Store owner replied:
Hi Stacy,
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are thrilled to hear that Worthy did so well with the loaned boots and is now 100% sound in his very own pair of Dragon Fire Red Viper Shield Seconds. It is amazing how much a little hoof protection can do for a thin-soled horse transitioning to barefoot.
Please give Worthy a pat from us, and thank your friend Helen for sharing the Renegade love!

I have had my horses shod for over 30 years and now I have slowed down on competition I thought it was crazy to keep shoeing. I decided to try boots after a lot of research and came to the conclusion that the vipers were the way to go. I am extremely happy with my chose. I have 3 horses in them and love them. yes it was a big expense to start with but over time they will well and truely save me a lot of money.
Store owner replied:
Hi Robyn,
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience! Making the switch to boots after 30 years of traditional shoeing is a huge transition, so we are incredibly honored that your extensive research led you to the Vipers.
We love hearing that all three of your horses are doing so well in them! You hit the nail on the head regarding the cost—while the upfront investment for a herd can feel big, the long-term savings on farrier bills are a game-changer.
Welcome to the Renegade family, and we wish you and your horses many happy, healthy miles ahead in your Dragon Fire Red Vipers!

Love my Renegades. They fit really well and don’t rub at all.
Store owner replied:
Thanks Melissa we love to hear that!
I love the boots. Both horses wear them. I am having a problem with them twisting slightly on my mare who toes in slightly. Trying to experiment with adjustments to see if I can eliminate the twisting
Store owner replied:
Hey Michelle thanks for your lovely review! Please reach out to the team via support@renegadehoofboots.com as they may be able to advise on the slight twisting issue.
We got these for our OTTB who has very poor hoof quality. Can’t keep shoes on, lots of chips & splits and always tender. He uses them 24/7 on turn out and is much more comfortable. He actually has enough growth after 4 weeks to trim instead of only ragged edges to cleanup. We remove them regularly, clean/dry his feet and the boots and replace them. For the first time in many months he’s not gimpy.
Store owner replied:
Hi Elizabeth,
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful update!
Managing an OTTB with poor hoof quality can be incredibly tough, so we are absolutely thrilled to hear how much these Viper Seconds are helping him. Hearing that he is finally out of that "gimpy" cycle, moving comfortably, and growing enough healthy hoof wall to trim after just 4 weeks is phenomenal news!
You are doing a fantastic job with his turnout management by keeping everything clean and dry. Thank you for trusting Renegade to help get your boy back on track!
Wishing you both the very best,

As always, the quality of these boots is unmatched. These boots are easy to use and the cables are easy to adjust yet very secure. I use Renegades on my endurance horses and I’ll never go back to shoeing.
Love them. Fit great for 6 weeks then a little sticky on the sides if trim goes 8 weeks but no problem otherwise it is just how my horse's hooves grow.
Store owner replied:
Dear Shannon,
Thanks for the great review! We're happy to hear you love your Renegade boots and that they fit well for a good portion of your trim cycle.
You might consider getting a slightly larger size boot to use later in your trim cycle when the current ones become a bit snug. This can help ensure a comfortable fit throughout the entire 8 weeks.
Thanks again for your support!
Sincerely,
The Renegade Hoof Boots Team
