A quantity of 1 is a single boot, select 2 for a pair of boots. Each increment of 2 will be treated as a pair for initial strap setup (one left one right). If you order an odd number of hoof boots, please use the notes field at checkout to request how many of “Left” or “Right”.
Single boot sales allow owners of horses with mis-matched hoof sizes to buy individually, and for easy purchase of single replacements.
The sizes indicate the hoof boot sole dimensions. We recommend selecting a size that is about 5-10mm longer and wider than the hoof measurements after a proper Natural Style Trim. The sizing shows length first then width second.
Hoof boots Seconds are new, with normal integrity & Performance. They are discounted only due to minor cosmetic imperfections like scuffs, color variance, or minor surface air bubbles. These blemish hoof boots are subject to the standard warranty, exchange, and return policies. Color hues may vary slightly from those shown. No customizations are available.
The material used to make our Hoof Boots is an ultra durable polyurethane for a very long lasting boot, which is also designed to deliver even more hoof and joint protection than the horse would get barefoot without hoof boots.
Viper® Shield is the hardest wearing material - You can expect 600-800 miles out of Viper hoof boots in Standard Colors.
Viper® Vivid™ is an ultra durable polyurethane resulting in an extremely long lasting boot, while offering a very slightly softer material, and Viper® Glow material has slightly more give.

The Renegade® Viper™ Shield Hoof Boot provides durable, lightweight, long-lasting hoof protection for barefoot horses, eliminating the expense of metal shoes and allowing natural flexion of the hoof for optimum circulation and healthy hooves.
Viper™ Hoof Boots have been developed over 20 years for maximum mileage, hoof stability and endurance hoof boot for barefoot horses. With competition-proven pivoting heel captivator design, a military grade cabling system and durable straps, the Viper™ Hoof Boot features a sleek look and bright colors, while the ultra-durable polyurethane used to make the Viper™ results in a seriously tough, long-lasting boot. Deep tread grooves provide longer-lasting grip to bite the ground, and display the artistic talent of our hoof boot designer, Kirt Lander.
This hoof boot design was trimmed down using finite element analysis, resulting in a hoof boot with more robust tread which weighs around 15% less than the Classic, and offers more lateral clearance on both the Boot Shell and the Heel Captivator. A deeper Heel Captivator 'gullet' allows for improved pastern bone clearance. The inside of the hoof boot is texturized and the Heel Captivator Liner is bonded in place for more stability in action. The Viper™ logo and boot size are stamped large inside of each boot for quick and easy size readability.
When sizing for Vipers, allow a minimum of 5mm (and max of 10mm) clearance between the hoof measurement and boot measurement, to allow for variation during the trim cycle.

We had a very good experience with the right boot, but for some reason the left one kept turning. On one 2-hour easy ride, we readjusted it 3 times … we would center it, but after a bit, it would slide off center to the left. They stayed on, though! We only do a walking ride because my horse’s pasterns are pretty shot at 28 years old.

I'm so happy that I can ride anytime I want to now and not have to wait for the farrier to fix loose shoes!! My horses feet are much healthier. I ride in very rocky terrain and these boots have fit & worked well. Customer service is easy to coordinate with via email. My only issue is the time it takes to get the package to the shipper. I would prefer that drop off/pickup to UPS would take less than 4-5 days.

Overall, the design of the boot is well-engineered. The reason I gave 4 stars is because the Velcro straps collect foxtail grass seeds and it is hard to clean. The straps also tend to be excessively long. I would definitely recommend the purchase of the boot for a tender footed horse.

To help with long straps, you can easily shorten them from the bottom attachment point, or simply fold and tuck the excess tail under the O-rings. Just be sure to keep the pastern straps loose enough that you can easily fit most of your hand through for a comfortable fit!

I I have always considered boots as spare tires for endurance - but for this EMS mare, she has to wear them whenever we go out. These Renegade boots are easy to put on, strap on, and go! My mare is ouchy on her fronts while walking on gravel/rocky roads and the boots have made a huge difference. She no longer has any issues. I love that she remains barefoot and we can add the boots if we need to.

The boots are fantastic, they look amazing and my horse loves them too. The ordering process and remote fitting assessment was fast, professional and accurate. I ordered from the UK and the postage cost was a fair amount but still cheaper than buying from a dealer in my country and I got the exact colour I wanted in the size I needed. However, once my item arrived in the UK I then had to pay an import tax fee of £50 (cheers Trump). So just be aware of that when ordering. As 1/3 of the cost was postage/import tax.

I really like these. My horse doesn’t get heel rubs with these. They stay on IF you do the bottom velcro as tight as you can. DO NOT do the top velcro tight, you want to fit four fingers underneath the stap and then do it up tight.
The free fitting helped me feel confident in plancing my order—they’re not cheap. I recommend buying when they are on sale.

I have had my horses shod for over 30 years and now I have slowed down on competition I thought it was crazy to keep shoeing. I decided to try boots after a lot of research and came to the conclusion that the vipers were the way to go. I am extremely happy with my chose. We got these for our OTTB who has very poor hoof quality. Can’t keep shoes on, lots of chips & splits and always tender. He uses them 24/7 on turn out and is much more comfortable. He actually has enough growth after 4 weeks to trim instead of only ragged edges to cleanup. We remove them regularly, clean/dry his feet and the boots and replace them. For the first time in many months he’s not gimpy.

As always, the quality of these boots is unmatched. These boots are easy to use and the cables are easy to adjust yet very secure. I use Renegades on my endurance horses and I’ll never go back to shoeing.
Love them. Fit great for 6 weeks then a little sticky on the sides if trim goes 8 weeks but no problem otherwise it is just how my horse's hooves grow.

Can I add customizations?
Yes. Simply click on your desired options from above and add them to your cart. Be sure to add any information in the cart notes - for example if you buy 4 boots but want to swap heel captivators on only two, or add studs only on the front boots, please provide plenty of detail so we can make the customizations to the right boots!
What if I want to buy more than one boot?
Just adjust the quantity for each size / model boot you need. Please let us know in the notes field at checkout which hoof the boots will go on, so we can put the velcro on facing the right way for each hoof.
If you buy a pair or a set of 4 we will assume that these are going left and right and put the velcro on as a pair or a set.
How long will Renegade hoof boots last?
Mileage will depend on the terrain, speed, and how the horse moves. On average, it is expected to get 500-600 miles out of the Classic model, and 600-800 miles out of the Vipers.
Abrasive rough terrain, or horses who drag their toes will likely get fewer miles out of their boots.
