A quantity of 1 is a single boot, select 2 for a pair of boots. Each increment of 2 will be treated as a pair for initial strap setup (one left one right). If you order an odd number of hoof boots, please use the notes field at checkout to request how many of “Left” or “Right”.
Single boot sales allow owners of horses with mis-matched hoof sizes to buy individually, and for easy purchase of single replacements.
The sizes indicate the hoof boot sole dimensions. We recommend selecting a size that is about 5-10mm longer and wider than the hoof measurements after a proper Natural Style Trim. The sizing shows length first then width second.
NOTE: COLOR MAY VARY SLIGHTLY FROM YOUR SCREEN DISPLAY.
The material used to make our Hoof Boots is an ultra durable polyurethane for a very long lasting boot, which is also designed to deliver even more hoof and joint protection than the horse would get barefoot without hoof boots.
Viper® Shield is the hardest wearing material - You can expect 600-1000 miles out of Viper® Shield hoof boots.
Viper® Vivid™ is an ultra durable polyurethane resulting in an extremely long lasting boot, while offering a very slightly softer material, and Viper® Glow material has slightly more give.

The Renegade® Viper™ Shield Hoof Boot provides durable, lightweight, long-lasting hoof protection for barefoot horses, eliminating the expense of metal shoes and allowing natural flexion of the hoof for optimum circulation and healthy hooves.
Viper™ Hoof Boots have been developed over 20 years for maximum mileage, hoof stability and endurance hoof boot for barefoot horses. With competition-proven pivoting heel captivator design, a military grade cabling system and durable straps, the Viper™ Hoof Boot features a sleek look and bright colors, while the ultra-durable polyurethane used to make the Viper Shield™ results in a seriously tough, long-lasting boot. Deep tread grooves provide longer-lasting grip to bite the ground, and display the artistic talent of our hoof boot designer, Kirt Lander.
This hoof boot design was trimmed down using finite element analysis, resulting in a hoof boot with more robust tread which weighs around 15% less than the Classic, and offers more lateral clearance on both the Boot Shell and the Heel Captivator. A deeper Heel Captivator 'gullet' allows for improved pastern bone clearance. The inside of the hoof boot is texturized and the Heel Captivator Liner is bonded in place for more stability in action. The Viper™ logo and boot size are stamped large inside of each boot for quick and easy size readability.
When sizing for Vipers, allow a minimum of 5mm (and max of 10mm) clearance between the hoof measurement and boot measurement, to allow for variation during the trim cycle.

These boots were made for walking and that's just what they'll do, one of these days they will walk all over you...... (song). My friend and I ride almost weekly at HI 🌋 Natl. Park back country and lava fields. They are by far the best boots as far as toughness and wear ability. Never leave home without them. The tourists we run across call them horse Crocs. A great way to educate about barefoot horses and what they are capable of. They also don't spark on the lava which could be a problem in dry brush.
Store owner replied:
Hi Kim,
Thank you so much for the fantastic review and for sharing those amazing photos! 🌋🎶
We absolutely love your remix of the song, and it sounds like your Cosmic Orange Vipers have found the ultimate testing ground! Navigating the backcountry and lava fields of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is no joke, so hearing that they are by far the best boots for toughness, wearability, and traction makes us incredibly proud. Plus, you made an excellent point—the fact that they don't spark on lava is a huge safety bonus in dry brush!
"Horse Crocs" is hilarious and absolutely perfect! We love that your bright boots are such a great conversation starter and a fun way to educate tourists on just how capable barefoot horses truly are.
Thank you for never leaving home without your Renegades, and for sharing a piece of your beautiful Hawaiian rides with us. Happy trails to you and your friend!
Best regards,

Love these boots. My horse walks with a twist causing his other boots to rub on his heels. The two part construction of the Renegade boots has eliminated that! We have very rocky terrain here and these are performing well. Live the bright orange!
Store owner replied:
Hi Dorian 🐴🧡
Thank you for the fantastic review—and for the photo! We’re so glad the Viper Shield™ boots are keeping your horse comfortable and protected, even on rocky terrain. That twisty walk sounds like a challenge, but it’s awesome to hear the two-part design is making a real difference. And yes, that bright orange is a total standout!
Warm regards,
Renegade Hoof Boot Support:
I’ve been using Viper hoof boots for years and they really work well for me. I’ve tried other brands and my horses end up getting rubs from the gaiters, but Vipers heel captivators move with my horses foot so no rubs! They are easy to put on and off and, once you get into the groove, very easy to adjust and replace parts as needed. They are also really great because you can use them through the trim cycle and don’t have to worry about tapping them on and your horse’s foot being a fraction too big to get them in. I recommend them to anyone who will listen lol :)
Store owner replied:
Hi Kathy,
Thank you so much for your fantastic review! We’re thrilled to hear that the Viper Shield hoof boots have been such a great fit for you and your horses—literally and figuratively. It’s awesome that the heel captivators are keeping things rub-free and that the boots are easy to use and adjust throughout the trim cycle. That “recommend them to anyone who will listen” line? We’re grinning ear to ear.
Thanks again for being part of the Renegade family—we’re lucky to have you in the herd!

They are amazing ! Truly ! My horse is super comfortable in them and he is able to fully express himself when we're outside with the boots on. I picked the brigh orange for the hinds for more visibility and they do a great job at that ! His hooves have changes a lot though since I got the boot, and the hind ones are now too short so I'm gonna have to change them :)

These boots are great. I like how they’re made to protect the sole and cushion the heel bulbs. And they are made in the USA. The quality is high and designed so well for the correct fit for the hooves.
I needed a little help and called and chatted on line with renegade. They always were so helpful!
I plan on buying a new pair when I get my new horse.
I highly recommend RENEGADE

The orange hoof boots from Renegade were thefirst ones I got and deffinetly not the last ones. My polo pony really enjoys her active retirement years in them as they help her to move as much as she would like to and she does not have to be foncerned with rocks or hard surfaces. I chose the orange ones just in case i lose them somewhere, because the orange is visible from far away but thankfully didnt have to act on this feature as they just dont fall off.

LOVE renegade boots!! My gelding Hootie sported his during the Pendleton Round Up parade and the boots were an absolute hit. We love using them for the Rocky trails in our area. I prefer them over traditional shoes!
These are great, they fit perfect when I first put them on. I took the time to measure my horse and send it to renegade and they sent me the sizes that they chose. My horse was so much more comfortable on the rocky areas and I would tell anyone to try them. They’re awesome.
My beautiful Missouri Fox Trotter loves the trails, however, he has exceptionally think soles that the vet advised to NOT shoe because he is trimmed every four weeks. There advice was to get him some boots. My boy's farrier is already trimming according to his radiographs and vets advice. He measured Dakota's feet after his trim and I ordered these phenomenal boots! He is so comfortable and no longer bruising his soles! I highly recommend these to anyone dealing with these issues, or if they just want a rugged and comfortable pair of boots to keep their horse happy. I might add, we use them on very rocky and technical trails!

First time out after shortening the cables per your suggestion, they kept twisting on his foot and we completely lost one and had to go back to look for it. Found it. Normal woods terrain, very little mud, slightly rocky in some areas, a few creek crossings. I was a bit disappointed at the twisting, kept having to redo them on the trails and he is well over 16 hands and I'm short so that was not cool. The one he lost is like he just stepped right out of it.

Stayed on for 15 miles through some areas with deep muck!
I emailed 3 times! No response! They dont fit, one comes off constantly. Even at a walk! YOU suggested this to be the right size and now I am stuck with a set of boots I cannot use!
I have been a customer for since the beginning and have never been treated like this.

Amazing first ride, stayed on through water obstacles and wet trails. 2nd ride I had to use a zip tie cause the Velcro came apart on the trail. Got home, put them back together and hoping for a few great rides this coming weekend. Addendum: read the directions and watched the video. Operator error Lol love these boots. Now I gotta get some for the hinds.
Store owner replied:
Hi Bridget,
Thank you so much for updating your review and sharing your experience with us! We love the "Cosmic Orange" on the trails, and we are so glad to hear your first ride through the water obstacles and wet terrain went so beautifully.
We really appreciate your honesty with the update, too—"operator error" happens to the best of us! It’s fantastic that the instructional videos cleared things up and got you right back on track. There is nothing better than that peace of mind knowing they are locked in and ready to handle the elements.

I got these boots for my geldings front feet and he loved them immediately. No getting used to anything, he was ready to hit the trail!
I realized I needed back boots and tried another brand. Big mistake. He hated them! Kicked his feet and got all upset. I immediately ordered the Renegades for his back feet. These things are awesome and inspire confidence in rocky terrain.
Store owner replied:
Hi Chris,
Thank you so much for the awesome review! We’re thrilled to hear that your gelding took to his Renegades right away—no adjustment period, just straight to the trail! That’s exactly the kind of confidence and comfort we aim to deliver.
We’re also glad you trusted us again for his back boots (even if it took a little detour to get there 😄). It means a lot to know our boots are helping both of you feel secure and happy out on rocky terrain.
Wishing you many more smooth and confident miles ahead!
Warm regards,
Renegade Hoof Boot Support
Ninit likes em, they make it more comfortable for him when he’s walking on harder surfaces, they also stayed on when we walked across the water on trail rides, even as he splashed in the water to his hearts content to cool off under the sun, just glad he didn’t decide to take a ‘dip’ while I was in the saddle. Will likely order a pair for his back hooves before long so he has the support there also on rough terrain

Love these boot! Ordered and arrived very quickly!
I'm still on the fence with the renegade boots. Mine fit well in the front and I constantly have sand and dirt in them after my ride. I went on aa long trail ride through some water the other day, and after trotting out my horse was off. I got off to check the boots and they were filled with decently sized rocks that were clearly hurting.

Can I add customizations?
Yes. Simply click on your desired options from above and add them to your cart. Be sure to add any information in the cart notes - for example if you buy 4 boots but want to swap heel captivators on only two, or add studs only on the front boots, please provide plenty of detail so we can make the customizations to the right boots!
What if I want to buy more than one boot?
Just adjust the quantity for each size / model boot you need. Please let us know in the notes field at checkout which hoof the boots will go on, so we can put the velcro on facing the right way for each hoof.
If you buy a pair or a set of 4 we will assume that these are going left and right and put the velcro on as a pair or a set.
How long will Renegade hoof boots last?
Mileage will depend on the terrain, speed, and how the horse moves. On average, it is expected to get 500-600 miles out of the Classic model, and 600-800 miles out of the Vipers.
Abrasive rough terrain, or horses who drag their toes will likely get fewer miles out of their boots.
